Our mission is to promote life-long learning and recreation, fostering an appreciation of literature at all ages, by providing free access to the world of media and technology to the residents of Cumberland County .

Founded in 1967, the Cumberland Public Libraries serves rural, northwestern Nova Scotia with 7 branch libraries and Books By Mail service. Branches are located in Advocate, Amherst, Oxford, Parrsboro, Pugwash, River Hebert, and Springhill. CPL offers a collection of over 70,000 items including books, e-books, movies and television shows, and audiobooks and subscribes to over 100 magazines and newspapers.
Thirty-eight computers are available to the public for free access to the internet. Computers are equipped with Microsoft Office software, and scanners and cd burners are available for use at most libraries.
28% of the residents of Cumberland County are registered with the library and last year over 129,000 items were borrowed from the library collection.
