An Important Notice

Due to COVID-19, all locations of the Cumberland Public Libraries (CPL) are closed until further notice.

CPL is now offering Grab n’Go contactless item pickup at the Amherst library.

Appointments are required, please call 902-667-2135 to book a slot or request an item. Grab n’Go will be available Mondays and Tuesdays 10-2.

You can choose up to  a maximum of 10 items- books, puzzles, DVDs etc. You can place holds on your own items or we can choose items for your order by phone.  Library staff will phone you to arrange a pick-up time for your holds.

The items will be charged to your library card and will be available to pick up by appointment.

Bookdrops are open at all Cumberland Public libraries’ locations.

Books will not be immediately checked in, but will be boxed and placed in quarantine. This means you may still see items charged to your account for several days after you have returned them. However, there will be NO FINES on these items.

Borrow by Mail– CPL will be offering borrow by mail to all residents of Cumberland County.  The service is free and all you need is a library card.  Don’t have a library card, call or email us to get one.

To get a library card, or to have books, movies, television shows, jigsaw puzzles, or magazines sent to you by mail, call 902-667-2135 or email information@cumberlandpubliclibraries.ca

Due to social distancing and cleaning procedures it will take staff more time than usual to get items to you. Please be patient with us as we work through this new arrangement.

Holds can now be placed in our online catalogue, so you can access items in other libraries in Cumberland, these items will be sent to you through our borrow by mail service.

Online resources, including audiobooks, e-books, and magazines are still available.

Loans and fines

  • All loan periods for physical items (books, movies, etc.) are extended indefinitely.
  • Fines are being waived.
  • Book drops at all CPL libraries are open to return your items.
