“I love the physicality of painting big, I imagine myself as a little person, my feelings are so overwhelmingly big that when I allow the physical expression of the mark making now, I am filled with energy that is nourishing me while I am exploring a deeper level of myself. Grounding myself, growing into myself.

I imagine every mark I am making is a representation of my thought, emotion and spirit combined. Every mark is an emotion expressed. Emotion is the deepest motivator of my work, I am ruled and often dominated by my emotion. I am still holding on to a representational style, a feeling of proving myself in the “real” world comes to mind. However, I feel the grip of proving something is loosening as I stumble between gaps of what I see, what I feel and where my intuition is taking me which I like to believe is adding abstract elements to my otherwise representational style. The reader/viewer can be assured that the transparent investigation of myself continues to be an ongoing process.”

Archan Knotz (b.1963) was born and raised in a small town in Germany by Hungarian/German WWII deportees. Her life has been coloured by the search for belonging and understanding her generational trauma that influenced every Sunday lunch. As soon as she could, she needed to leave her childhood home in order to undertake the journey of her lifetime to see if she could find a way to lighten the load and allow herself to be (still an ongoing undertaking). In 1993 Archan traveled to Canada, where she is still residing, now as a Canadian citizen in a small village on the north shore in Nova Scotia.

We’re having a period underwear giveaway at our Amherst location! Starting tomorrow at 6pm, grab a pair of FREE reusable period underwear on us. Please note there will be a strict limit of 1 pair per attendee. We are unable to reserve or hold items.

Funding for this initiative is part of the Government of Nova Scotia’s cost of living support to increase access to menstrual supplies for all Nova Scotians.

Starting November 25, and running until November 30, patrons will have the opportunity to get great deals on their favourite titles. Make sure to bring your own bag to fill for $10, or fill a CPL bag for $13!

The following library services are affected by the Canada Post labour disruption:

-Cumberland Public Libraries’ patrons cannot place holds on materials outside of our region. For anyone using our online catalogue, we suggest saving out-of-region materials to your For Later shelf until holds can be placed. Holds placed on CPL materials will still be available to our patrons.

-Borrow By Mail service is suspended until the labour dispute is over.

-Anyone who registers for a library card online will receive their physical card after the strike.

Regular service will resume when the strike ends. Thank you for your understanding.
